Sharptown, MD – On Tuesday, August 3, 2021, Sharon Kohlhoff, age 55 of Sharptown, Maryland, pled guilty to 2nd Degree Murder and Firearm Use in a Crime of Violence.
The Honorable Kathleen L Beckstead, Chief Judge of the Circuit Court for Wicomico County, accepted Kohlhoff’s guilty plea and scheduled sentencing for October 21, 2021.
On September 25, 2020, Troopers from the Maryland State Police – Barrack E (Salisbury) responded to Water Street in Sharptown, Maryland in reference to a shooting.
Upon arrival, MSP Troopers discovered Kohlhoff looking through financial paperwork and in close proximity to a revolver handgun.
In the kitchen of the residence, MSP Troopers discovered the victim, Edward Kohlhoff III, who was the defendant’s husband. Mr. Kohlhoff was unresponsive, having suffered five (5) gunshot wounds.
Mrs. Kohlhoff was interviewed by Troopers and admitted to killing her husband. At no time did Mrs. Kohlhoff express any signs of being in fear of her husband.
Wicomico County State’s Attorney (SA) Jamie L Dykes handled the case and specifically thanked Sergeant S. Hallman, other members of the Maryland State Police – Homicide Unit, Victim-Witness Coordinator Kim Lynch and all those who assisted in the investigation and prosecution of this case.
SA Dykes remarked, “A family has suffered irreparably and tremendously, in ways most of us can only imagine. The criminal justice system is ill equipped to make them whole. Our hope is that the resolution of this case affords accountability and finality.”
