Registration is open for Active Start Sports Worcester County Recreation and Parks. Active Start Youth Sports Development Programs are for children of all skill levels.
These sport-specific programs prepare children for organized sports in a fun, non-threatening environment by teaching the fundamentals of play while encouraging an appreciation for being physically fit and healthy.
Active Start Volleyball will take place at the Worcester County Recreation Center (WCRC) on Wednesdays, September 15 through November 3, from 3:30 – 5:00 p.m. for grades fourth to sixth, and 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. for grades sixth to eighth. Participants will teach players to love and play the sport of volleyball.
Active Start Disc Golf, new this year, is open to children in grades second to eighth. Students will develop their disc golf skills in a fun environment. Participants will play in scrimmage games. Active Start Dodgeball will be held at Pocomoke Middle School on Fridays, October 1 through November 19, from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. The cost is $10 per child. Participants in grades fourth through eighth will play various dodgeball games and perfect their dodging, ducking, and diving skills.
Active Start Basketball, which will teach players how to dribble, pass, shoot and more, is open to players in grades first through eighth. Active Start Archery Tag, also new this year is open to grades fourth through eighth. Archery Tag is a combination of archery and laser tag. Participants will be taught how to shoot specialized bows and arrows. Don’t miss out on this upcoming sport. The program will meet at John Walter Smith Park on Mondays, September 13 through November 8, from 3:30 – 5:00 p.m.
Active Start Baseball will cover all aspects of the game. Participants in grades second through eighth will learn skills and play scrimmage games. Active Start Tennis will be held at Showell Park on Wednesdays, September 15 to November 3, from 4:00 – 5:30 p.m. This program is open to students in grades kindergarten through fourth. Active Start Lacrosse will be a fun introduction to the sport of lacrosse. Players will learn how to shoot, pass, and play the game. Transportation for all active start programs will be available from the school to the designated park. The price per child is $35 and $30 for each additional child. Financial aid is available to those who show a demonstrated need. Proof of eligibility is required.
