WOR-WIC COMMUNITY COLLEGE NURSING STUDENTS RECEIVE AWARDS
Salisbury, MD-Wor-Wic Community College recently held an awards and recognition ceremony to honor its nursing graduates. The event, held at James M. Bennett High School in Salisbury, saw 108 graduates receive their nursing pins and certificates, signaling the culmination of their educational journey.
Following a rich tradition that dates back to the 12th century, the faculty presented each graduate with a pin. This ritual, carried forward by nursing pioneer Florence Nightingale in the 1800s, symbolizes the hard work, dedication, and academic success each student has achieved in their pursuit to become a professional in the field of nursing.
The department head and professor of nursing, Dr. Brenda J. Mister, presented special awards. Chelsea Milligan, a Wor-Wic graduate and previous nursing instructor currently part of TidalHealth's clinical response team, delivered the keynote address. The ceremony also featured a speech by student Melissa Ward.
The evening concluded with a poignant lamp-lighting ceremony, reflecting the 'light of learning' each nursing student acquired during their time at Wor-Wic. This ceremony was inspired by Nightingale's nighttime rounds during the Crimean War, further reinforcing the legacy and significance of the nursing profession.
