Cambridge, MD - A wildland fire was reported on August 21, 2024, in the 2500 block of Boeing Way in Cambridge, Dorchester County, Maryland. The fire started around 2:06 PM on a 30-acre field adjacent to a residential community. The property is under the ownership of the State of Maryland.

Ten firefighters from the Rescue Fire Company (Cambridge) and Maryland DNR Forestry arrived quickly and successfully controlled the fire within an hour. Thanks to their prompt action, no injuries or deaths were reported; however, an estimated structural loss of $5,000 was sustained.

A local neighbor discovered the fire, which was identified as originating from the brush or vegetation. Upon an initial investigation, it was found to be incendiary.

This is not an isolated incident, as a similar brush fire occurred on August 17, 2024. Both fires are believed to have been caused by several unidentified young individuals who were observed discharging marine 12-gauge flares in the vicinity. These individuals refused to be identified or cooperate with the police during the incident.

The police are currently investigating and expect to identify and charge the subjects. They are also seeking the community's assistance in determining these individuals' names or guardian details. In case of any leads, the public is requested to call the Office of the State Fire Marshals Office at 410-713-3780.
