WICOMICO COUNTY'S CREDIT RATING UPGRADED TO Aa1 BY MOODY'S INVESTORS SERVICE
Wicomico County Executive Julie Giordano is pleased to announce that under her leadership, the County's issuer and general obligation limited tax (GOLT) rating has been upgraded from Aa2 to Aa1 by Moody's Investors Service. This significant upgrade reflects Wicomico County's ongoing effective leadership, strong financial performance, and prudent fiscal management.
In response to the news, County Executive Julie Giordano stated, "I could not be prouder of our team as we showcased all the great things that are happening in our county. During last year's presentation, they noted the goals we set and this year, witnessed the fulfillment of those goals. We were complimented on our strong governance and fiscal responsibility."
Moody's highlighted that Wicomico County's local economy is expected to continue expanding in the near term, supported by a diverse range of sectors, including healthcare, government, and transportation, which are all increasing their presence in the area.
Additionally, the county's airport serves as an economic driver and will offer education and training programs in partnership with UMES, an HBCU, fostering new employment opportunities for residents. This program will be unparalleled in the United States. Residential development and infrastructure are also key focuses as the county's population grows.
Moody's stated in its report, "Wicomico County's very strong governance profile supports its rating, as captured by its G-1 score. It reflects a strong institutional structure, demonstrated policy effectiveness, and an established history of prudent budget management."
This upgrade positions Wicomico County among the top-rated counties in the region, further solidifying its strong financial standing and bright future under the current administration.
