WICOMICO COUNTY TOURISM PARTNERS RECOGNIZED AT SALISBURY AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ANNUAL AWARDS

Wicomico County, MD - Wicomico County's tourism division celebrated its strongest partners at the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Awards Luncheon. The event, held on Thursday, Oct. 24, at the Wicomico Civic Center, acknowledged local organizations and individuals who have significantly contributed to drawing visitors, stimulating the economy, and enhancing the quality of life within the county.

The tourism division's goal is to attract visitors and event attendees to the community, and its partners play a crucial role in this pursuit. Among the honorees this year was Salisbury Elks Club #817, who received the Hospitality Award.

The Elks Lodge, by supporting events organized by the county and working closely with event planners, ensures smooth-running events and enjoyable experiences for attendees.

Piedmont Airlines was declared the Tourism Business of the Year. The airline has had a significant impact on the local community and the wider tourism industry through its sponsorships of several County events and its exceptional customer service to tourists.

Salisbury University Athletics received the Tourism Partner of the Year award. The tourism division has worked together with Salisbury University on diverse events this year, including the USSSA Eastern Nationals opening ceremonies and the Governors Challenge. Additionally, they were jointly awarded the 2027 NCAA Men's Volleyball National Championship, underscoring the area's growing reputation as a hub for significant sports events.

Billy Atkinson, the man behind Eastern Shore Baseball Tournaments, was named Tourism Person of the Year. Atkinson has dedicated over a decade to event organization in Wicomico County, this year alone coordinating 18 tournaments that attracted more than 700 teams to the area. These events not only bolstered local businesses but also highlighted Wicomico County as a premier sports destination.

These awards shed light on the collaborative effort that goes into promoting tourism in Wicomico County and demonstrate the county's ongoing commitment to providing a memorable and enriching experience for visitors.
