WICOMICO COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE CHARGE MAN FOLLOWING PURSUIT ON ATV
Wicomico County, MD - On December 19, 2024, deputies from the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office encountered a blatant disregard for traffic laws and public safety in Salisbury, MD. Denzel Johnson, the person at the heart of the incident, was spotted riding an ATV, executing stunts such as wheelies, in the vicinity of W. Isabella St. and N. Division St. in Salisbury, Maryland.
As officials attempted to approach Mr. Johnson to safely carry out a traffic stop, they witnessed him committing numerous serious traffic infractions. Notably, he was caught failing to obey a red traffic signal, blocking traffic flow while continuing his dangerous stunts through an intersection.
Johnson made an illegal U-turn in the middle of the intersection, paying no heed to the rules of the road. Not limiting his reckless behavior to the streets, he drove onto a sidewalk and even through a park on the northwest corner of the intersection.
In their attempts to apprehend Johnson, he resorted to desperate measures, making rapid turns with his ATV to elude the deputies. The scenario came to an end when he attempted to turn onto N. Division St. and crashed his ATV into the curb while sideswiping another vehicle in the process.
Despite the crash, the incident was far from over. Johnson managed to free himself from the wreckage and fled the scene on foot, leading deputies on a short pursuit before finally being apprehended and taken into custody.
Fortunately, the driver of the vehicle Johnson sideswiped escaped the ordeal unharmed. Their vehicle sustained minor damage thanks to Johnson's reckless actions.
