WICOMICO COUNTY SECURES $800K GRANT FROM US DEPT OF TRANSPORTATION FOR NEW ORLANDO ROUTES
Wicomico County, MD-The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) recently awarded Wicomico County an $800,000 grant. The grant comes from the FY23 Small Community Air Service Development Program (SCASDP) and will bolster a new flight route from Salisbury Regional Airport (SBY) to Orlando International Airport (MCO).
Apart from improving the air service accessibility for the residents of the Eastern Shore, this investment has been strategically made by the Office of the Secretary of Transportation to spur economic growth and enhance the region's connectivity.
Besides offering a comprehensive revenue guarantee, the grant will shoulder elementary start-up costs and a marketing plan crafted to allure and maintain the new Orlando route. This project resonates with Wicomico County's continuous endeavor to bolster Salisbury Regional Airport as a regional transportation hub.
It's not just for local travelers, but also Eastern Shore visitors. The initiative beautifully encapsulates the County's dedication to amplifying travel options and economic vitality via strategic infrastructure investments.
According to County Executive Julie Giordano, this is a groundbreaking accomplishment for Salisbury Regional Airport and Wicomico County. Alongside the DOT and our local partners, they are thrilled to avail new flight options for the community, linking Eastern Shore residents and visitors to one of America's most coveted travel destinations.
This service expansion is a part of Salisbury Regional Airport's bigger vision to enhance flight options and connectivity for area residents. Not only will it cut down on travel times and associated costs when reaching major domestic destinations, but it will also benefit residents throughout the First Congressional District and pull in tourism and business investment for the region.
