WICOMICO COUNTY FIRE SENDS ONE MAN TO BALTIMORE BURN CENTER

Salisbury, MD - A fire on Joseph Drive in Salisbury, Wicomico County, Maryland, resulted in a 61-year-old man being transported to the Bayview Burn Center in Baltimore, Maryland. The individual sustained first and second-degree burns while burning trash and brush in a metal burn barrel, which inadvertently caused a fire to spread to the surrounding area.
The Fruitland Volunteer Fire Department responded to a report of a shed fire and a burn victim at the location.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a small brush fire and a male individual suffering from burn injuries, mainly to the lower portion of his body below his waist.
The fire is believed to have originated in a burn barrel. Preliminary investigations indicate that wind played a possible role in the fire escaping the barrel, igniting the surrounding brush and eventually spreading to the subject's clothing.
Maryland State Police Aviation Command (Trooper 4) was requested to assist in the emergency response. Trooper 4 landed in a nearby location to transport the injured individual to the Bayview Burn Center for further medical treatment.
The fire was promptly controlled by approximately 20 firefighters, with the incident declared under control within ten minutes upon their arrival.
