WICOMICO COUNTY EXECUTIVE JULIE GIORDANO ANNOUNCES SIGNING OF HB1340
Wicomico County, MD - Governor Wes Moore signed HB 1340 into law in a historic ceremony that took place in Annapolis. This decision is significant because it can potentially transform the Wicomico County liquor industry completely.
Our esteemed Wicomico County Executive Julie Giordano, the Director of Administration Bunky Luffman, Deputy Director of Administration Matt Leitzel, Delegate Carl Anderton, Senator Marybeth Carozza, and local business owner Alex Scott witnessed the bill signing.
Arguably, HB 1340 stands as one of the most important bills in recent years as it completely revokes the long-standing liquor monopoly in Wicomico County. The new provisions now grant local bar and restaurant owners the flexibility to purchase spirits from a distributor of their choice.
Local business owners have greatly anticipated this development and are now looking forward to the enhanced business opportunities it will provide.
Despite the shift, the liquor dispensaries will remain intact and continue to operate as normal, serving the general public just as they always have.
This new chapter could not have been opened without the unyielding support of local business owners, legislators, and the general public who have all contributed to this monumental shift in county policy. It is our hope that this law will pave the way for a more viable and thriving business climate in Wicomico County.
We eagerly look forward to July 1, the day when we officially take that giant leap toward creating a more business-friendly county and opening up new avenues for prosperity in our community.
