WICOMICO COUNTY ANNOUNCES TURKEY TREK 5K WITH THE MR. GOBBLE GOBLE CHALLENGE
Wicomico County, MD - If you're looking for a fun and family-friendly way to celebrate Thanksgiving this year, you might want to consider joining the annual Turkey Trek 5K by Wicomico Recreation & Parks at Pemberton Park in Salisbury, Maryland. This event will take place on Thanksgiving morning, November 28, 2024.
This is different from your usual 5K run. In a fun twist, one lucky runner dressed up as a turkey will attempt to outrun the rest of the participants. Unique to this race, those who keep ahead of the turkey will be honored with a special sticker, and those who are overtaken will receive a lighthearted "sticker of shame."
Randy McFadden, the Recreation Program Specialist, remarked that the Turkey Trek 5K has evolved into a local tradition, something families in the community look forward to every year.
And the fun doesn't stop when the race is over. There are awards for the overall male and female runners, as well as the first, second, and third-place winners. Moreover, there are also awards for male and female winners in various age groups.
Why not fully embrace the holiday spirit and dress up for a chance to win the Best Thanksgiving Costume? After the exertion, you can enjoy some refreshments and holiday pie.
To participate, there is an early registration fee of $35, going up to $40 after November 8th. Pick up your race bib and shirt at the Wicomico Civic Center box office on November 26th or 27th.
The best part? All proceeds from the race will go to Pemberton Nature Camp and other environmental programs. So, dust off those running shoes, get your coziest turkey costume ready, and join us for a race that promises fun, competition, and a sense of community spirit.
