VIRGINIA MAN ARRESTED AND CHARGED WITH FELONY ASSAULT AFTER ALTERCATION WITH AN ELDERLY MAN AT PROTEST

Rehoboth Beach, DE - On March 8, 2025, the Delaware State Police arrested a Virginia man following a felony assault incident at a call for a protest.


The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Charles Gehman from Lynchburg, Virginia, was taken into custody for assaulting a 65-year-old man.


Police were dispatched to the area near Popeye's on Coastal Highway in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, due to reports of noise from a protest. While on the scene, officers received information about an assault occurring in a nearby parking lot. An investigation revealed that the 65-year-old victim had been assaulted following a dispute over parking and traffic.


The victim suffered minor injuries as a result of the altercation. Gehman was seen leaving the scene in a gray Toyota Corolla with Virginia license plates. Responding troopers were able to locate Gehman and the Corolla a short time later.


Gehman was arrested without incident and taken to Troop 7, where he was charged with the following:


  • Assault in the 2nd Degree Causing Injury to a Person Over 62 (Felony).


Following his arraignment, Gehman was released on a $4,000 unsecured bond.
