VEHICLE FIRE CAUSES DAMAGE TO HOME IN CHESTER, MARYLAND

Chester, MD - On March 20, 2025, at approximately 12:33 P.M., a vehicle fire involving a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pick-up truck extended to a nearby dwelling, resulting in significant property damage and one reported injury. The incident occurred in the 100 block of Kirby Street, Chester, Maryland.

  

Incident Summary:  

The fire originated in the engine compartment of the parked vehicle and, due to close proximity and prevailing wind conditions, spread to the exterior of the dwelling.


The owner of the vehicle, who was also a resident of the property, attempted to extinguish the fire and sustained non-life-threatening smoke inhalation injuries. The victim was transported to Anne Arundel Medical Center for medical evaluation and treatment.


The incident, classified as a one-alarm fire, prompted a swift response from the Kent Island Volunteer Fire Department, with 25 firefighters working to bring the fire under control within approximately one hour.  


Damages and Losses:  

  • Estimated Property Loss: $50,000 (structure and contents).  
  • The vehicle, a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, was a total loss.  
  • Structural damage occurred to the exterior of the dwelling.  


Cause and Investigation:  

Preliminary investigations indicate the fire was caused by an unspecified electrical failure within the engine compartment of the vehicle. The owner had operated the vehicle earlier that day.


No further specifics on the electrical failure have been determined at this time.
