WICOMICO COUNTY, MD - On June 21, 2024, the Honorable S. James Sarbanes, Administrative Judge of the First Judicial Circuit Court, sentenced Tyler Gaskins, a former resident of Salisbury, Maryland, to a ninety-year jail term. Gaskins was convicted on April 29, 2024, for a variety of charges, including Kidnapping, First and Second-Degree Assault, Violation of a Protective Order, Witness Tampering, and Perjury.

The various charges stemmed from incidents in May 2023, where Gaskins, under the belief of his girlfriend's infidelity, assaulted her in their home. The attack escalated on the following day, with Gaskins strangling the victim and punching her in the chest, which resulted in her having a fractured sternum.

The following day, Gaskins threatened to kill the victim if she didn't get into his vehicle, and then drove her to her ex-boyfriend's residence, which led to another assault, this time involving a knife.

After these incidents, the victim secured a Protective Order against Gaskins. While awaiting trial, Gaskins attempted to manipulate the victim into alleging false accusations against her ex-boyfriend to support his case, resulting in him perjuring himself.

Wicomico County State's Attorney, Jamie Dykes, expressed relief at the sentencing, stating that Gaskins posed a "significant risk to public safety." Dykes also praised the Maryland State Police for their swift investigation and Senior Assistant State's Attorneys Lauren Bourdon and Heather Clarke for their strong advocacy.
