TWENTY-YEAR SENTENCE FOR ATTEMPTED ARMED ROBBERY THAT LEFT VICTIM PARALYZED
Salisbury, MD-In a recent court ruling in Wicomico County, Maryland, Joshua Satchell, a Salisbury man, was handed the maximum sentence of 20 years for attempted armed robbery. The ruling was issued and sentence given by the Chief Judge of the Circuit Court for Wicomico County, the Honorable Kathleen L. Beckstead.
The 38-year-old Satchell pled guilty to his charges on June 11, 2024. The sentencing was delayed to allow for a thorough pre-sentence investigation. He remained in custody until the final sentencing date, August 15, 2024.
The charges stemmed from an incident in August 2023, where Satchell and four co-conspirators targeted a group of friends enjoying a backyard barbecue. The victim was shot in the back of the neck in a bid to escape the robbery, an injury that resulted in paralysis.
Despite not being the individual to fire the weapon, Satchell was deemed legally accountable due to his role in the robbery.
Jamie L. Dykes, Wicomico County State's Attorney, praised the Salisbury Police Department for their commendable efforts during the investigation, highlighting Detective Barkley's dedication to the case. The work of Senior Assistant State's Attorney Lauren Bourdon was also acknowledged.
