TOWN OF OCEAN CITY OFFERS PLANT GRANTS FOR BEACH DISTRICT AREA AND POLLINATOR GARDENS
Ocean City, MD - The Town of Ocean City, Maryland, is now accepting mini-grant applications for two plant grant categories: the Beach District plants and the Pollinator Gardens. A total of 40 grants will be accepted for each category, providing residents with a unique opportunity to contribute positively to their local environment.
Beach District plants are offered for planting in the dune area. These plants, known for their hardiness and resistance to drought, salt air, and wind, play a significant role in dune stabilization and act as a welcoming habitat for local wildlife. As wind-blown sand gets trapped in these plants, it progressively builds up and naturally forms dunes.
The second category, the Pollinator Gardens, is designed to attract a variety of pollinators such as bees, birds, butterflies, bats, and other small mammals. While offering a charming sight to behold, these gardens also serve crucial environmental functions. They aid in habitat enhancement, water quality improvement, and erosion control and play a significant role in keeping our community eco-friendly. The Ocean City Green Team stands committed to promoting these gardens as a vital element of the Sustainable Maryland Action Plan.
To apply, one must be a resident or a residential property owner within the corporate limits of the Town of Ocean City. This initiative fosters environmental stewardship, strengthens community bonds, and beautifies Ocean City's landscape.
Apply online at oceancitymd.gov/oc/departments/planning-community-development/environmental-mini-grants. The deadline for applications is Friday, April 12, 2024.
