TOWN OF OCEAN CITY ANNOUNCES RAYMOND J. AUSTIN AS NEW CHIEF OF POLICE

Ocean City, MD - The Town of Ocean City has announced the appointment of Raymond J. Austin as the new Chief of Police for the Ocean City Police Department (OCPD). Chief Austin brings a wealth of experience, having started his law enforcement career with the OCPD in 1991.
Throughout the years, he has held various leadership roles within the department, including Commander of the Criminal Investigation Division and Patrol Lieutenant.
A graduate of the prestigious FBI National Academy, Chief Austin has been recognized for his significant contributions to law enforcement. One notable achievement includes his involvement in a landmark Maryland case in 2002 that helped shape legal precedents regarding police authority.
His commitment to community engagement is evident through his participation in initiatives such as National Night Out and Coffee with Cops.
After retiring in 2022, Chief Austin continued to serve the community as a Special Investigator. Now, as he returns to the OCPD, he aims to enhance public safety, ensure accountability, and foster community partnerships.
Terry McGean, City Manager of Ocean City, praised Chief Austin's leadership and dedication to the town's values, expressing confidence in his ability to advance the department. Chief Austin is set to officially assume his new role during the upcoming council meeting on May 5, 2025.
