Cambridge, MD-On September 2, 2024, at approximately 11:13 a.m., the Cambridge Police Department, with the assistance of deputies from the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office, took Jason Warren Groff, a 41-year-old man from Toddville, MD, into custody for charges of Rape and other sexual offenses.

The arrest happened following an active Dorchester County District Court Arrest Warrant issued for Groff. Officers had received information that Groff was headed toward Cambridge from Toddville, Maryland. They coordinated efforts to intercept him, succeeding in locating and arresting him in Dorchester County, MD.

Groff was brought before a Court Commissioner for his initial appearance and was later transferred to the Dorchester County Department of Corrections. He is currently being held without bond.

Groff has been charged with multiple counts of Rape and sexual offenses, along with charges of assault and false imprisonment.

These charges result from an investigation started by the Cambridge Police Department Criminal Investigation Division on August 16, 2024. During the investigation, a female victim was interviewed at the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center.

The victim reported an incident on August 13, 2024, a few days earlier. The University of Maryland Shore Medical Center and Advocates from For All Seasons assisted forensic medical personnel in the investigation. 

The female victim encountered a man on a motorcycle, later identified as Groff, at a local gas station. The victim had an issue with her tire, which required her to pull into the gas station to get air.

The female and Groff then went to a local residence to watch a movie together. While there, Groff began making "lewd" comments and advancements to the female, to which she told him to stop. Groff allegedly overpowered the victim, Raped, and sexually assaulted her despite her objections.

Initially, Groff was not known other than a nickname he provided as "Boots," but he stated that people called him "Warren," and he was from Toddville, MD. He was described as a white male, approximately 40 years of age, with hazel eyes, faded facial hair, and he was said to have a prosthetic leg.

On August 27, 2024, an officer from the Cambridge Police Department observed a suspect matching Groff's description getting into a small white box truck with Pennsylvania tags. When the officer ran the tags, the vehicle came back registered to Jason Warren Groff, a 41-year-old man from Toddville, MD.

Further investigation resulted in the identification of Groff, who was a registered sex offender and was already on probation. A warrant for his arrest was issued soon after.
