THREE SUSPECTS CHARGED WITH ANIMAL ABUSE AND NEGLECT IN WICOMICO COUNTY MARYLAND

Salisbury, MD - In a horrific discovery on Valentine's Day, three Salisbury, Maryland residents have been charged with nine counts of Animal Abuse and Neglect by the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office.
On February 14, 2025, deputies from the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office assisted the Salisbury Police Department and Animal Control by responding to a call in the 1700 block of Samuel Lane in Salisbury, Maryland, in reference to a animal abuse and neglect.
Upon trying to serve an arrest warrant on one of the residents, identified as Samuel Powell, the Salisbury Police Department made a tragic discovery. They found three deceased dogs at the rear of the residence.
When deputies arrived, they reported observing the three deceased dogs in various stages of decomposition. The dogs were still wearing collars and tragically, they were attached to chains, restricting their freedom of movement.
Animal Control staff assisted with photographing and recovering the bodies of the deceased dogs for necropsies.
The Wicomico County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division was also called in to aid with the investigation.
The suspects, Samuel Powell, Nakia Powell, and Miracle Powell, were identified as residents of the Samuel Lane property. After consultation with the Wicomico County State's Attorney's Office, each of the individuals were charged with nine counts of Animal Abuse and Neglect.
