Wicomico County, MD - On January 31, 2025, the Honorable S. James Sarbanes, Administrative Judge of the Circuit Court for Wicomico County, sentenced 23-year-old Cypress Taylor to 25 years in the Division of Corrections. Taylor, hailing from Pittsville, MD, had previously pleaded guilty to Sexual Abuse of a Minor and Third-Degree Sexual Offense on November 12, 2024.

The conviction followed a completed mandatory presentence investigation and mental health assessment. Beyond his active sentence, Taylor is set to serve a five-year supervised probation. As per the court's decision, any probation violation could lead to an additional 40 years of imprisonment.

Taylor is also mandated to register as a Tier III Sex Offender for life, thereby placing him under Lifetime Sexual Offender Supervision.

The charges stemmed from a chilling incident in Fall 2022 when Taylor sexually abused a minor child under his care. He attempted to avoid prosecution by fleeing the State but was shortly located and extradited back to Maryland.

The severity of his crime resonates in the words of Wicomico County State's Attorney (SA) Jamie L. Dykes, who rightfully stated, "Sexual predators who seek to harm our children pose an inherent threat to society." He praised the courage of the survivor, the swift actions of the Wicomico County Child Advocacy Center, and the Salisbury Police Department's Detective G. Wells, who led the investigation.

Commendations should also go to Senior Assistant State's Attorney Michael Calabrese, who successfully prosecuted the case and advocated for justice.
