TALBOT COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE INCREASES LAW ENFORCEMENT EFFORTS WITH THE EDWARD J. BYRNE MEMORIAL JUSTICE ASSISTANCE GRANT
Talbot County, MD - The Talbot County Sheriff's Office has announced that they have been awarded the esteemed SFY2025 Edward J. Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (BJAG). The grant is set to provide the Town of Trappe with fortified Sheriff's Office coverage to aid in crime reduction and promote community wellness through increased patrols and public engagement.
Sheriff Joe Gamble expressed his enthusiasm on receipt of the grant, stating, "This grant allows us to concentrate our law enforcement efforts in the Town of Trappe more effectively," he said.
The need for increased law enforcement in Trappe became apparent after the departure of the Town's Chief of Police in 2017. Subsequently, the Town faced a dramatic increase in calls for law enforcement services, significantly higher than the preceding area's average trend.
The award of this grant enables the Talbot County Sheriff's Office to proactively prevent criminal activities by implementing increased area patrols. Erin Braband, Town Administrator, shared her optimistic views on the impact of the grant on the Town. "The grant will allow the Sheriff's Office to offer additional patrols to the Town, helping to reduce crime and enhance safety for our residents and visitors," she said.
The funding for this project, under sub-award number BJAG-2002-0041, is provided by the Governor's Office of Crime Prevention and Policy (GOCPP).
