TALBOT COUNTY GREASE FIRE LEAVES ONE INJURED AND RESIDENCE DESTROYED
Talbot County, MD - St. Michaels Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire in the 100 block of Plummer Drive in Talbot County, Maryland, at approximately 3:36 P.M. on Tuesday, December 10, 2024.
The cause of the fire was cited as accidental, reportedly started by an ignited cooking pot. According to the fire department's report, an occupant was cooking when the contents of a pot spilled, igniting the grease. The blaze quickly spread, engulfing the property and causing significant damage, estimated at around $200,000.
The occupant also sustained burns during the process of removing the ignited cooking pot from the building. The extent of their injuries has not yet been disclosed.
St. Michaels Volunteer Fire Department was the primary responder to the incident, with a total of 15 firefighters getting the blaze under control within 10 minutes. Despite the quick response and action, the fire caused structural damage, costing an estimated $125,000 and a further $75,000 in destruction to the contents of the property.
