SMALL FIRE BREAKS OUT IN PRISON CELL AT EASTERN CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION

Westover, MD - On March 6, 2025, a small fire broke out in a prison cell at the Eastern Correctional Institution in Westover, Somerset County, Maryland. The fire originated from a pile of clothing which was ignited due to an inmate smoking in the cell.

Thankfully, the situation was swiftly controlled, with no structural damages reported. The local fire department was not needed to respond, the fire was brought under control by correctional officers at the location.

There were no injuries reported, and the damage was contained to personal belongings within the cell, estimated at a loss of around $100.

It's unclear at this time the extent of disciplinary measures the responsible inmate will face.
