SALISBURY WOMAN CONVICTED IN BARBECUE ROBBERY AND ATTEMPTED MURDER CASE
Salisbury, MD - In a gripping three-day jury trial that concluded on April 24, 2024, Salisbury resident Ashlee Nicole Scott was found guilty of several serious charges, including Attempted Murder in both First and Second Degree, Attempted Armed Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit Robbery, and Illegal Possession of a Regulated Firearm among others.
The conviction followed an event that unfolded on August 20, 2023, when Scott, aided by four accomplices, staged a violent robbery during a backyard barbecue.
The Honorable Kathleen L. Beckstead, Chief Judge of the Circuit Court of Wicomico County, presiding over the case, has postponed the sentencing pending a comprehensive pre-sentencing investigation.
At the incident, the victim, who was enjoying a peaceful afternoon barbecue with friends, was shot in the back of the neck while attempting to escape the robbery, resulting in paralysis. Scott, although not the shooter, was identified by the court as the chief planner and participant of the robbery and shooting.
Wicomico County State's Attorney Jamie L. Dykes voiced their satisfaction with the jury's decision, stating that it sends a strong message that Wicomico County does not tolerate violent crimes. Dykes praised the Salisbury Police Department for their prompt action and investigation and specifically acknowledged Detective Barkley for his dedication and commitment to the case.
The County State's Attorney also recognized Senior Assistant State's Attorney Lauren Bourdon in the successful case conclusion.
