Salisbury, MD - For seven consecutive years, Salisbury University (SU) has been recognized among the nation's top producers of Fulbright Students, a distinction awarded by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and The Chronicle of Higher Education. Alongside this, SU has also been cited among the leading producers of Fulbright Scholars.

The Fulbright accolade is recognized as one of the highest honors in the realm of higher education. Salisbury University's continued success in garnering these awards is a testament to the hard work and proficiency of its students, faculty, and administration, and the superior resources and support provided by the institution.

One of the key resources contributing to this success is SU's Nationally Competitive Fellowships Office, headed by Dr. Kristen Walton. In the last ten years, over 100 SU students have received prestigious awards. This success rate is indicative of the caliber of students attending SU, who reportedly match or even surpass graduates from other universities across the nation in terms of their achievements.

In the 2023-24 academic year, three former SU students, Ashlynn Burrows, Madison Cuthbert, and Naomi Perry, were awarded the Fulbright Student Award. Burrows, from Edgewater, MD, taught English and established a local basketball club in the Czech Republic.

Cuthbert, from Potomac, MD, worked on marine research in Greece, and hopes her work will aid global missions to mitigate microplastics. Perry, from Odenton, MD, pursued a Master's degree in Life Sciences and Health in France, with a focus on Astro biological research.

Two SU faculty members, Dr. Viktoria Basham and Dr. Ryan Habermeyer, also received Fulbright Scholar honors for the 2023-24 academic year. They are respectively conducting research on Bulgarian vampire folklore, and exploring World War I experiences in Poland through primary sources.

SU is proud of its long history of faculty, administrators, and alumni who have received Fulbright awards. The prestigious Fulbright Program operates in over 160 countries, providing opportunities for international exchange of ideas and collaborative solutions to global issues.
