SALISBURY UNIVERSITY ANNOUNCED DR. MATTHEW LAURENT AS NEW DEAN OF COLLEGE OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES

Salisbury, MD - Salisbury University (SU) recently welcomed Dr. Matthew Laurent as the new dean of its College of Health and Human Services (CHHS). Dr. Laurent joins the institution after a considerable tenure at Tarleton State University, where he held various capacities, including the dean of the School of Health and Clinical Professions.


Dr. Laurie Couch, SU's provost and senior vice president of academic affairs, expressed high expectations for the college under Dr. Laurent's leadership. "Dr. Laurent's vision for CHHS aligns seamlessly with our mission to prepare career-ready graduates who are community-minded providers," remarked Dr. Couch.


Dr. Laurent, expressing his excitement about this new journey, stated, "I am deeply honored and excited to join SU as the next CHHS dean. I look forward to working with colleagues within the college and across the institution to build on our existing strengths while exploring new avenues for growth and innovation."


As the dean of CHHS, Dr. Laurent will oversee the college's Schools of Health Sciences, Nursing, and Social Work, in addition to the Center for Healthy Communities and the Richard A. Henson Medical Simulation Center.


During his tenure at Tarleton State, Dr. Laurent proved instrumental in expanding graduate and undergraduate programs, developing new educational spaces devoted to interprofessional education, and leading the school through reaccreditation and reaffirmation of numerous academic programs.


Dr. Laurent carries an impressive professional portfolio, with over 15 years of published research in sports performance, strength and conditioning, and recovery and rehabilitation.


He also holds a Ph.D. in human performance, exercise physiology from the University of Alabama and M.S. and B.S. degrees in sports and exercise sciences from West Texas A&M University.


With this wealth of experience and expertise, Dr. Laurent's appointment promises an exciting new chapter for Salisbury University's College of Health and Human Services.
