Wicomico County, MD - Wicomico County Executive Julie Giordano is proud to announce that Salisbury Regional Airport (SBY), in partnership with the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES), has received certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to officially launch the much-anticipated Aviation Maintenance School.

This certification marks a significant milestone in the county's mission to advance workforce development and educational opportunities in the aviation and aerospace industries. The Aviation Maintenance School will be housed at Salisbury Regional Airport and will offer specialized training programs to meet the growing demand for skilled aviation mechanics.

"This achievement represents years of dedication and collaboration," said County Executive Giordano."The Aviation Maintenance School is not only a cornerstone for workforce development in our region but also a beacon of innovation and opportunity. We are proud to work alongside UMES to bring this vital program to fruition. Together, we are creating pathways for students to excel in the aviation industry while contributing to the economic growth of Maryland's Eastern Shore."

The FAA certification ensures that the program meets rigorous standards for training aviation mechanics, equipping students with the knowledge and hands-on experience needed to earn Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certification. Graduates will be prepared to join a highly sought-after workforce in both the public and private sectors.

The program, unparalleled to anything in the United States, is expected to attract students from across the Mid-Atlantic and beyond, further positioning Wicomico County as a leader in aviation education and innovation.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony and an open house event will be announced soon to celebrate this momentous achievement and to provide the public with an opportunity to learn more about the program.
