SALISBURY POLICE OFFICER HONORED FOR HER BRAVERY AND HEROISM

Salisbury, MD - The Rotary Club of Wicomico County recently held a banquet luncheon for a group of individuals who demonstrated remarkable bravery and heroism in the year 2024.

Among them was Salisbury Police Department's Detective First Class Adeline Cyrus. As they often say, "Not all heroes wear capes", and this couldn't ring more true when referring to Detective Cyrus.

After hearing about one particular incident, we felt she deserved to be recognized and wanted to share her story with the entire Eastern Shore Undercover community!

During an incident on October 17, 2024, Detective Cyrus, along with other members of the Salisbury Police Department, became involved in a frantic search for a child with special needs who had unexpectedly gone missing.

The unique requirements of children with special needs amplify the urgency in these situations for first responders. Their potential vulnerability in unfamiliar environments can increase the potential risks they face and therefore, this is always a heightened sense of urgency with these types of incidents.

They might struggle with communication or navigating their way home, making the task of law enforcement even more crucial in ensuring their swift and safe recovery.

Detective Cyrus's persistent efforts eventually led her to the child, who was found clinging onto a pier, partially submerged in the Wicomico River. Without a moment's hesitation, she rescued the child from the challenging situation and ensured the child received the necessary care.

In conversations with her colleagues today, it became abundantly clear that Detective Cyrus is far more than just a decorated officer and valorous hero. She also proudly serves as a veteran member of our United States Air Force reserves.

Her fellow officers describe her as an exemplary colleague and a diligent worker. She is praised as an exemplary cop with a deep-rooted care for her community.
