SALISBURY MAN FOUND GUILTY AND SENTENCED TO 35-YEARS WITH ALL BUT 15-YEARS SUSPENDED IN WICOMICO COUNTY
Wicomico County, MD - Micah Elijah Martin, a 25-year-old resident of Salisbury, has been convicted and sentenced for drug and firearm offenses. He was found guilty on two counts of possession with the intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance and illegal possession of regulated firearms.
As a result, Martin has been sentenced to thirty-five years in prison, with all but fifteen years suspended. This sentence includes a mandatory minimum term of five years.
The events leading to Martin's arrest began on July 14, 2024, when officers from the Fruitland Police Department tried to pull over a vehicle in which Martin was a passenger. The vehicle failed to stop, prompting a high-speed pursuit by the police.
After a brief vehicle pursuit and foot chase, officers apprehended Martin. A subsequent search of the vehicle and the area Martin had fled through yielded controlled substances and drug paraphernalia.
The following day, officers from the Salisbury Police Department responded to a report from a local homeowner who had discovered a suspicious bag in his yard. This bag, found in the area through which Martin had escaped, contained two handguns, fentanyl, heroin, and Martin's identification card.
Wicomico County State's Attorney Jamie L. Dykes emphasized the community's ongoing battle against drug and gun-related crimes. She expressed gratitude to the Fruitland Police Department and Salisbury City Police Department for their diligent work on this case. Senior Assistant State's Attorney Patrizia J. Coletta was also praised for her effective prosecution of the case.
