Wicomico County, MD - The Wicomico County proudly announced its recent acquisition of a grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) under the Federal Aviation Administration's FY25 Airport Infrastructure Grant (AIG) program. The reward, a generous amount of $126,825, is earmarked for Phase 1: Design for the replacement of equipment in the Sponsor-owned federal contract tower at the Salisbury-Ocean City Wicomico Regional Airport (SBY).

This crucial move is aimed at solidifying the region's primary air travel hub's safety and operational standards. Wicomico County Executive Julie Giordano expressed gratitude for the grant, noting it as a reflection of the federal government's commitment to modernize local infrastructure.

Senator Chris Van Hollen shared a similar sentiment, highlighting the airport's role in local business and tourism, fueling the Eastern Shore's economy. He applauded the government's efforts to continue investing in its growth and success, positioning it to maintain high standards of air traffic safety while serving regional travelers and businesses efficiently.

Also joining in the conversation, Senator Alsobrooks labeled the Salisbury Regional Airport a vital infrastructure and transit hub bolstering the Eastern Shore's economy. Alsobrooks vows to be a staunch advocate for the region alongside her federal delegation colleagues.

The impact of this grant extends further, touching on Congressional District 1, thus fortifying transportation resources for Salisbury and its neighboring communities. The task of disbursing the funds falls to the Federal Aviation Administration, with Daniel G. Neumann as the primary contact for project oversight and implementation.
