ROCK HALL FIRE RULED ACCIDENTAL DUE TO DISCARDED FIREPLACE ASHES

Rock Hall, MD - On Sunday, February 16, 2025, a fire broke out, causing significant damage to a residence in the 6900 block of Hagy Road in Rock Hall, Kent County, Maryland. The Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Company was the primary responder to the incident.
The homeowner discovered the fire originating from an interior 8' x 10' detached shed adjacent to the main dwelling. The flames quickly engulfed the shed and were further fueled by high winds.
Unfortunately, the fire spread from the shed to the nearby single-family home. The close proximity of the shed to the house facilitated the fire's rapid spread.
Firefighters battled the blaze for an hour before they were able to bring it under control.
After evaluation, it was reported that the estimated damage to structures and contents amounted to approximately $100,000.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire was accidental, likely caused by improperly discarded ashes from a fireplace that were placed inside the detached shed.
