Cambridge, MD - As temperatures rise and flowers begin to bloom, the City of Cambridge is preparing to resume its annual road resurfacing program. Construction is set to begin in mid-April, with sidewalk crossing improvements and paving expected to continue well into the fall.

This year, residents can expect approximately 11,750 linear feet, or about 2.2 miles, of streets to be resurfaced. The selection of roads for this program is based on an extensive "Pavement Condition Study" conducted in 2018 by the consulting firm IMS, which specializes in roadway pavement assessments. This study has helped the City prioritize streets that are in urgent need of repair based on their current condition.

A total of $600,000 has been budgeted by the Mayor and Cambridge Commissioners for this year's road resurfacing project. As part of this initiative, the City has identified several sidewalk crossings on prioritized streets that require upgrades to meet current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. Thirty-four crosswalks have already been selected for these necessary improvements, which will be completed before the resurfacing begins.

The David A. Bramble Company has been awarded the contract for these enhancements and is expected to complete the sidewalk work within both the allocated budget and timeframe. The anticipated timeline for this sidewalk work is approximately two weeks.

While the paving schedule has been carefully planned, it remains tentative and may change due to unforeseen circumstances, such as weather disruptions or potential subbase road issues that may be discovered during the milling process.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed about the paving schedule and road conditions through local updates. A list of specific streets designated for paving this season has been made available to the public.

Cambridge is committed to improving city infrastructure, ensuring that both residents and visitors can enjoy safe and accessible roadways. As the city embarks on this annual project, citizens are reminded to exercise patience during construction for the long-term benefit of enhanced transportation routes.
