REPEAT SEX OFFENDER SENTENCED TO 30 YEARS IN PRISON
Wicomico County, MD - On Friday, November 22, 2024, Steven Behr, Jr., a 36-year-old resident of Salisbury, MD, was sentenced to thirty years' imprisonment in the Division of Corrections by the Honorable S. James Sarbanes, Administrative Judge of the Circuit Court for Wicomico County.
Behr, Jr. had confessed to Sexual Abuse of a Minor and Prohibited Entry onto Property by a Sexual Offender Registrant on September 25, 2024. The sentencing was deferred until a mandatory pre-sentence investigation and mental health evaluation was completed.
Upon completion of his sentence, Behr, Jr. will be subjected to Lifetime Sexual Offender Supervision and mandated to register as a Tier III Sexual Offender for life. The charges stem from incidents between 2022 and 2024, where Behr, Jr. sexually abused a minor in a home he frequented.
The homeowner also provided informal daycare services at this location. At the time of these occurrences, Behr, Jr. was a Tier II registered sex offender due to prior convictions of multiple counts of Sexual Offense in the Fourth Degree.
As a registered sex offender, he was legally restricted from entering properties where daycare services were being provided, adding to his list of violations. The victim was a minor under the age of 17.
Wicomico County State's Attorney Jamie L. Dykes praised the Wicomico County Child Advocacy Center and the Court for their diligent work in ensuring justice was served. Dykes stated, "Sexual predators will always pose a threat to society. However, those who seek to do our children harm will find no safe haven within Wicomico County."
Dykes acknowledged the lead investigator, Detective D. Schultz of the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office, Child Protective Services, and other members of the Wicomico County Child Advocacy Center for their work in the investigation. Senior Assistant State's Attorney Michael Calabrese, who prosecuted the case, was also commended for his advocacy for justice.
