Queen Anne's County, MD - On February 15, 2025, at approximately 4:46 PM, deputies from the Queen Anne's County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the intersection of Beach Road and South Carolina Road.

They were responding to a report of an unresponsive individual identified as Macon Wheeler, an 86-year-old man from Stevensville, Maryland, who was found slumped over the steering wheel of a vehicle.

Deputy First Class Schultz arrived at the scene and discovered Wheeler in the driver's seat, with the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the vehicle. After a brief conversation, Wheeler consented to participate in Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs).

To conduct the tests, he was transported by law enforcement to a nearby paved roadway located approximately 50 yards away.

However, during the transport, the situation took an unfortunate turn. Wheeler allegedly caused intentional damage to the vehicle, at which point he revoked his consent to perform the sobriety tests. Consequently, he was apprehended for the damage he caused to the property.

The incident escalated further when Wheeler resisted arrest. While being transferred to another patrol vehicle, he physically lashed out by kicking Deputy Schultz.

Later, Wheeler submitted to a breath alcohol test, which revealed a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) level of .11.

Wheeler was charged with the following offenses:

  • Driving Under the Influence (DUI)
  • DUI per se
  • Driving While Impaired (DWI)
  • Second-degree Assault
  • Malicious Destruction of Property (less than $1,000)
  • Consuming Alcoholic Beverages in the Passenger Area of a Motor Vehicle on Highway
