QUEEN ANNE'S COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE ARREST MAN FOR ALCOHOL RELATED DRIVING OFFENSES

Queen Anne's County, MD - On March 29th, shortly after 2:30 AM, Queen Anne's County Sheriff's Office Deputy First Class R. Johnson was conducting a routine patrol on eastbound Route 50 near Hess Road. During his patrol, DFC Johnson noticed a vehicle traveling without functioning rear lights and failing to stay within its lane.
Concerned for the safety of the driver and other road users, DFC Johnson initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of Main Street and Comegys Lane. Upon approaching the vehicle, he identified the driver as John Landis.
During their interaction, DFC Johnson observed several signs of impairment and detected the scent of alcohol coming from the vehicle.
John Landis agreed to perform Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs), which he was unable to complete satisfactorily. Following the sobriety tests, Landis was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
In compliance with the officer's request, Landis submitted to a breath test, which registered a blood alcohol concentration of .15, nearly double the legal limit.
As a result of the stop, John Landis faces multiple charges, including Driving Under the Influence (DUI), Driving While Intoxicated (DWI), DUI Per Se, Negligent Driving, and Reckless Driving.
Additionally, Landis was cited for several traffic violations, such as failing to drive on the right half of the roadway, not displaying red lights on the rear lamps and reflectors and disobeying a traffic control device.
Community members are reminded of the dangers and legal consequences associated with impaired driving. Local law enforcement continues to emphasize the importance of road safety and adherence to traffic laws to ensure the well-being of all travelers.
