Preston, MD - A two-story, single-family residence in the 200 block of Main Street in Preston, Maryland, was engulfed in a major structure fire on May 28, 2024, at approximately 7:24 P.M.

The residence, owned by Derin and Katie Brewer, succumbed to extensive damage with a financial loss estimated at $75,000 - $50,000 for the structure and a further $25,000 for the contents within.

The Preston Volunteer Fire Company discovered and responded to the fire remarkably while they were participating in a town parade. With 48 firefighters at the scene and a single alarm raised, they managed to control the fire within 20 minutes of arrival.

Investigations indicate that the fire originated in the house's interior living room. The cause has been deemed accidental, attributed to the failure of an unspecified electronic device.

The smoke alarm system present in the residence had been activated during the event.
