President Trump today signed his first piece of legislation, the Laken Riley Act, into law. This new legislation insists on the federal detention of illegal immigrants, who face accusations of theft, burglary, assault on a law enforcement officer, and any crime resulting in death or severe bodily injury.

The law honors the tragic loss of Laken Riley, a nursing student in Georgia who lost her life to a Venezuelan alien. The alien, previously arrested, had been paroled into the U.S. under the administration prior to Trump's.

Secretary Noem expressed gratitude to the President, for his commitment to reforming an immigration system she described as 'broken.' She said, "Thank you, President Trump, for signing the Laken Riley Act.

This law restores commonsense to our broken immigration system. Under President Trump, violent criminals and vicious gang members will no longer be released into American communities."

The Laken Riley Act signifies a fundamental shift in immigration policy. It presents a clear and strong stance towards crimes committed by illegal immigrants, reaffirming the administration's commitment to public safety and law enforcement.
