POPLAR HILL MANSION FESTIVAL SET FOR MAY 4, 2025

Wicomico County, MD - Residents and visitors to Salisbury are invited to take a step back in time at the upcoming Poplar Hill Mansion Festival on May 4, 2025. This annual event, renowned for its engaging historical reenactments and family-friendly atmosphere, will run from Noon to 4 P.M. and offers a thorough exploration of Salisbury's Federal Period history.

Festival attendees will have the opportunity to witness captivating period reenactments, including performances by the Chesapeake Independent Blues, War of 1812 reenactors, and piano music by Geneque Garrison. The Dover English Country Dancers will also be present to showcase the elegance of early 19th-century dance traditions.

The event is designed to blend education and entertainment, featuring displays from local nonprofits and historical societies, as well as engaging children's activities such as the Kid Curators Tent and Shelly's Shenanigans Game Area. A special Maypole dance will celebrate May Day in a traditional manner.

In addition to the historical attractions, visitors can explore the Market Square, which will host vendors offering handmade goods and local culinary delights. Guided tours of the Poplar Hill Mansion will be conducted throughout the day, with volunteers in period attire enhancing the authentic experience.

Sarah Myers, the curator of Poplar Hill Mansion, emphasized the event's significance by stating, "This festival is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate Salisbury's heritage and engage with history in a fun and educational way. Whether you're a history enthusiast or just looking for a great family outing, there's something for everyone."

The festival is open to the public free of charge, with parking available at Bethesda Methodist Church, conveniently located at the corner of Division St. and Isabella St. in the historic Newtown Neighborhood.

To facilitate the event, Elizabeth Street between Rt. 13 and Division St. will be closed from 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and attendees are encouraged to follow posted detours.

With a day filled with history, culture, and community engagement, the Poplar Hill Mansion Festival promises to be an enriching experience for all ages.
