POPLAR HILL MANSION FESTIVAL SCHEDULED FOR MAY 5, 2024
Salisbury, MD-The Poplar Hill Mansion Festival, an annual event renowned for its blend of history, games, and fun, is again set for Sunday, May 5, 2024. Entrance is free of charge, and the fun begins at noon and lasts until 4 p.m.
The festival is hosted at Salisbury's esteemed Poplar Hill Mansion, a site steeped in history and said to be the oldest residential structure in the town.
Visitors can expect a vibrant array of attractions, including a reenactment of the War of 1812 performed by the Chesapeake Independent Blues. Live music and dancing, led by the Dover Country Dancers, are also vital parts of the event.
For children, there will be an activity area brimming with educational displays and a maypole. The Community Curators' Tent will return after successfully debuting last year. This platform encourages people to showcase their collections, and any interested participants are advised to contact the curator at curator@poplarhillmansion.org.
This year, the festival is set to be infused with a touch of the carnival spirit. Eight games have been added to the line-up, with options ranging from Plinko, ring tossing, "When Pigs Fly," and frog-flinging to family-friendly axe throwing and a pie toss featuring participants in the pillory.
Sarah Meyers, the curator, stated that every year, efforts are made to introduce new activities to the festival, ensuring that there's something fun for every family member.
The festival is not just about games. A Market Square populated by craft vendors and a selection of food trucks is stationed on the premises. For history enthusiasts, guided tours of the historic mansion are also available.
The Poplar Hill Mansion is located at 117 Elizabeth St. For festival attendees, parking will be available in the Bethesda United Methodist Church parking lot at 406 N. Division St.
