OVERNIGHT FIRE BREAKS OUT IN PRISON CELL AT ECI

Westover, MD - On March 9, 2025, a small fire was detected at the Eastern Correctional Institute, located at 30420 Revells Neck Road, Westover, Somerset County, Maryland.

The fire, which originated in a cell within housing unit 4, was quickly contained within just five minutes, ensuring the safety and integrity of the masonry correctional facility.

There were no reports of injuries or the need for evacuation due to the prompt response of the correctional officers. As a result, the fire department was not needed to respond.

The exact cause of the fire is currently under investigation. A thorough examination will be conducted to determine the cause and prevent future occurrences.
