OCEAN PINES FIRE A RESULT OF SMOKING MATERIALS DISCARDED IN PLASTIC BUCKET

Ocean Pines, MD - On February 3, 2024, at approximately 5:54 PM, the Worcester County Fire Marshal's Office was dispatched to investigate a residential structure fire in Ocean Pines, Maryland.

The Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a residence on Raft Road for a reported structure fire. Upon arrival, crews observed significant fire conditions on the rear of the home extending into it quickly. 

Firefighters worked to swiftly contain the fire to a screened porch, kitchen, and attic area of the home. Crews remained on location for approximately two hours conducting overhaul operations, and ensuring the fire had been completely extinguished.

Deputies from the Worcester County Fire Marshal's Office responded to the scene and conducted a thorough fire scene examination. Deputy fire marshals determined the fire originated in the rear of the home from improperly discarded smoking materials in a plastic bucket.

Properly working smoke alarms are credited with early notification to the occupants of an emergency in the home allowing them to evacuate safely.
