OCEAN PINES COMMUNITY COMES TOGETHER FOR MISSING CHILD
Ocean Pines, MD - In a heartwarming display of community solidarity, the Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department (OPVFD) swiftly conducted a successful search mission for a missing 10-year-old boy on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.
In collaboration with local law enforcement agencies and citizens in the community, the group located the missing boy safely, ensuring a happy ending to a potentially distressing situation.
It was around 5:40 PM when the call came in. An autistic child had gone missing, last seen at about 4:05 PM. The Ocean Pines Police Department requested the assistance of the OPVFD in this urgent task.
The first responders, local law enforcement and community volunteers worked relentlessly, ultimately leading to the child's safe recovery at around 8:07 PM. Contributions to this successful mission were far-reaching.
Over 50 personnel from fire, EMS, and fire police departments across multiple locales contributed to the effort, as did retired members of other agencies.
The law enforcement involvement was equally impressive, with Ocean Pines Police, Maryland State Police, Ocean City Police, Fruitland Police, Natural Resources Police, the Worcester County Sheriff's Office, and the Worcester County Fire Marshal's Office all lending a hand.
Worcester County Emergency Services was well-represented with numerous staff members involved. The OPVFD Administrative Division and the Showell Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary provided crucial canteen support.
Especially noteworthy was the participation of over 135 concerned citizens who gathered at the South Station. Local teachers and unseasoned volunteers braved the snow and freezing temperatures to assist in the search.
Captain Enste of the OPVFD commended the compassionate and strong community. He stated, "Last night truly highlighted the strength and compassion of our community. We are deeply grateful to everyone who played a role in this successful outcome - on-duty, off-duty, volunteer, and retired first responders, as well as every citizen who stepped up to help."
The Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department continues to express deep gratitude to the extraordinary community they are proud to serve. Thank you to everyone who made this remarkable rescue possible.
