OCEAN CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT OF K9 KLEM
Ocean City, Maryland - After an illustrious eight-year career, the Ocean City Police Department's K9 Klem is hanging up his leash and retiring from service. His partner, Cpl. Danielle Braniff, along with the entire department, is celebrating his many achievements and expressing gratitude for his excellent service.
Born on December 18, 2014, in The Netherlands, K9 Klem was selected and trained by Shallow Creek Kennels in Sharpsville, Pennsylvania.
After rigorous training, he joined the Ocean City Police Department in November 2016, forming an unbreakable bond with his partner Cpl. Braniff. Their exemplary partnership resulted in remarkable milestones, including over 350 deployments, 42 arrests, the seizure of 21 weapons, and recovering approximately $3,452 in illegal funds. Additionally, the team of Giordano and K-9 Klem spent around 1,200 hours in training.
Beyond his notable career in law enforcement, K9 Klem was known for his cheerful and friendly nature. He was a bright spark in the department, winning hearts and forming bonds with fellow officers, communications personnel, and community members.
According to Cpl. Braniff, K9 Klem was more than just a co-worker but a close confidant who stood by her during long and challenging tasks.
As he approaches his 10th birthday on December 18, 2024, K9 Klem looks forward to a deserved, relaxed life filled with his favorite activities - running in the yard, enjoying boat rides, and playing on sandbars.
He will continue to live with Cpl. Braniff and her family, who will ensure his retirement is filled with love, warmth, and gratitude.
