Salisbury, MD - During the early morning of June 18th, Wicomico County Sheriff's Office Deputies responded to the 100 Block of Cedar Crossing in Salisbury, Maryland, about a hit-and-run collision Investigation.

Upon arriving at the residence, the deputies encountered a female who had been brutally assaulted. Deputies were able to safely remove the victim from the residence and render emergency medical care.

The victim was transported to Tidal Health for further treatment. During the investigation, the deputies learned that the suspect, Matthew William Gruber, was still in the residence and armed with a knife.

Gruber refused to respond to the deputies' commands and induced a barricade situation.

After approximately 9 hours of attempted negotiations by the Crisis Negotiation Team, members from the Sheriff's Emergency Response Team and the Salisbury City Police Tactical Team entered the residence and took Gruber into custody. Gruber was transported to Tidal Health for what appeared to be self-inflicted injuries.
