OCEAN CITY, MD-A local teen is at R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, Maryland, following a hit-and-run crash that took place during Delmarva Bike Week. On September 13, 2024, around 9:34 p.m., members of the Ocean City Police Department responded to a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of 12th Street and Philadelphia Ave in Ocean City, Maryland.

The pedestrian, a 16-year-old male, sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash. Ocean City Emergency Services treated the young man before being transferred to R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, Maryland, by Maryland State Police Aviation Command-Trooper 4. His condition remains critical this afternoon (September 14, 2024).

Initial investigations revealed that the suspect, Michael Scot Schneider, 51, of Ballston Spa, New York, was driving a motorcycle southbound on Philadelphia Avenue at a high rate of speed. Schneider struck the pedestrian and then lost control of his motorcycle. After striking the pedestrian, Schneider crashed his motorcycle into a parked motorcycle and another vehicle. Schneider then fled the scene.

Several hours later, Schneider was located in West Ocean City with the assistance of the Maryland State Police. In speaking with Schneider, officers noted signs of impairment and physical injuries consistent with a motorcycle crash. Schneider was transported to Tidal Health Peninsula Regional for medical treatment.

Following treatment, Schneider was placed under arrest and charged with twelve traffic offenses, including driving under the influence and failing to remain at the scene of an accident resulting in bodily injury or death. He was denied bond and transferred to the Worcester County Jail.

Due to the injuries to the victim being life-threatening, officers obtained a search warrant and collected a blood sample to determine Schneider's alcohol concentration.
