NEGLIGENT DRIVING CAUSES MONDAY MORNING CRASH ON US RT 50 IN BERLIN
Worcester County, MD - On Monday, October 28, 2024, just shy of 9:00 a.m., a motor vehicle crash took place on US Rt. 50 at US Rt. 113 in Berlin, Maryland, as reported by the Maryland State Police's Berlin Barrack.
At the time of the crash, a black and silver 2009 International tanker truck with Texas registration was traveling along lane 2 of eastbound US Rt. 50. In this lane, a black 2011 BMW 328 bearing Maryland registration collided with the truck from behind, causing significant damage to the tanker truck. The impact was sufficient to rupture the tank on the back of the truck.
The driver of the affected tanker truck, Deonshaye D. Waters, a 28-year-old resident of Laurel, DE, was promptly taken to Atlantic General Hospital as a precautionary measure.
The BMW was operated by Sandra Jean Elliott, a 39-year-old woman from Pittsville, MD. Following the incident, Elliott was transported to Tidal Health Hospital for precautionary measures.
As per the initial findings, Elliott has been charged with negligent driving in relation to the incident.
The Maryland State Police were supported at the scene of the incident by the Berlin Fire Company. In managing the aftermath of the collision, the team was further assisted by the Maryland State Highway Administration, which oversaw the road closure, which lasted for approximately three hours.
