Cambridge, MD - Early in the morning on February 9, 2024, officers from the Cambridge Police Department responded to an unusual incident that occurred at the intersection of Hubert St and Park Lane. A male subject was reportedly lying on the ground.   That subject was identified as Ty'Rek Sincere Meekins, a 24-year-old Cambridge, Maryland, resident with several pending arrest warrants.

The officers on the scene identified Meekins based on his active warrants and an accompanying Criminal Summons. Attempts to peacefully arrest Meekins were hindered by his attempts to resist and pull away from the officers.

Despite his persistent struggle, the officers successfully detained and arrested him.

The unfolding series of events drew multiple onlookers, leading to crowds gathering in the area. Meekins, suspected to be under the influence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, was transported to the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Dorchester for medical treatment.

Later, an application of charges was completed by the Cambridge Police Department against Meekins, which resulted in a newly issued Arrest Warrant.

Upon his discharge from the hospital, Meekins was transported to the Cambridge Police Department, where the original and new arrest warrants and the Criminal Summons were served.

Meekins was subsequently transferred into the custody of the Dorchester County Department of Corrections on a temporary commitment. Meekins had the following warrants:

  • Warrant #1: Dorchester County District Court Bench Warrant for Failing to Appear in Court on 6-22-23 on an original charge of Escape 2nd Degree Conditions of Release

  • Warrant #2: Dorchester County District Court Bench Warrant Problem Solving Specialty Court for Failing to Appear in Court on 10-30-23 on an original charge of Theft $100 to Under $1,500

In reference to the involvement from February 9, 2024.  Meekins was charged with the following:

  • Disorderly Conduct

  • Resist Arrest

  • Obstructing and Hindering

Criminal Summons: Dorchester County District Court - Charging Meekins with the following:

  • Resist Arrest

  • Obstruct and Hindering

These charges stem from an incident that occurred on January 14, 2024 at approximately 9:05 pm. when Cambridge Police Department Officers observed Meekins in the Park Lane area.  Officers were familiar with Meekins having multiple warrants for his arrest.  As officers attempted to place him under arrest, he resisted by pulling away and fleeing on foot.

During the foot pursuit, Meekins scaled a barbed wire fence and was last observed in the area of Fairmont Ave and Clinton St.  Cambridge Police Department Officers applied for charges on Meekins, where a Criminal Summons was issued.
