MONDAY MORNING FIRE DISPLACES FAMILY IN WESTOVER
Westover, MD - On Monday, October 16, 2023, at approximately 10:25 AM, firefighters were dispatched to the 8100 block of Upper Hill Road in Westover, Somerset County, Maryland, for a reported structure fire.
Upon arrival, firefighters from the Princess Anne Volunteer Fire Company and assisting fire companies found a two-story, wood-frame, single-family home fully involved.
There were 20 firefighters on the scene and it took approximately 2 hours to get the fire under control.
As a result of the fire, the owners have suffered an estimated $100,000 in structural damage and an additional $50,000 in loss of contents.
Through their investigation, investigators learned that the fire started in the front porch/sunroom of the residence and was ruled accidental due to an electrical failure at the fuse panel box.
The occupants have been displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
