MILFORD MAN ARRESTED FOR HIS 6TH DUI

Lincoln, Delaware - The Delaware State Police have arrested David Gillespie of Milford, Delaware, for his 6th offense felony DUI on Sunday afternoon.

On May 5, 2024, at approximately 2:04 p.m., a trooper from the Delaware State Police responded to a motor vehicle crash in Cedar Creed Road, in the area of Heritage Road, in Lincoln, Delaware.  The trooper found that a Jeep Liberty had crashed into a mailbox and a utility pole. 

Before the trooper arrived at the scene of the crash, he was informed that the driver of the Jeep, had left the scene, and walked away from the crash. 

The trooper was able to locate the driver a short time later, whom they identified as David Gillespie, walking on Cedar Creek Road. During the course of the investigation, and while speaking with Gillespie, the trooper noticed that Gillespie showed signs of impairment.  The trooper administered Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, to which Gillespie didn't perform to the standards expected.  

Gillespie was arrested for driving under the influence and a computer check showed that he had five prior DUI-related convictions. Gillespie was not injured as a result of the crash.

Gillespie was taken to Delaware State Police Troop 7, where he was formally charged.  Gillespie was later arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3, and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $12,402 cash bond.

Gillespie has been charged with the following:


  • 6th Offense DUI (Felony)

  • Breach of Conditions of Bond (Felony)

  • Leaving the Scene of an Accident

  • Driving While Suspended or Revoked

  • Multiple Traffic Offenses
