MIDDLETOWN MAN ARRESTED IN BETHANY BEACH FOLLOWING ASSAULT AT WAWA

Bethany Beach, DE - On Sunday, February 23, 2025, at approximately 1:10 a.m., officers from the Bethany Beach Police Department responded to a report of disorderly conduct at the Wawa store located at 774 Garfield Parkway, Bethany Beach, Delaware.
Upon arrival, officers observed a crowd pointing to a black Jeep fleeing the scene along Garfield Parkway. With the assistance of the Ocean View Police Department, a traffic stop was initiated on the vehicle.
The driver, identified as Evan Jones, a 20-year-old resident of Middletown, Delaware, was confirmed by witnesses as the individual who assaulted a Wawa employee before fleeing the scene.
During the arrest process, Jones was reportedly uncooperative with law enforcement officers. Officers detected the smell of alcohol on Jones' breath, prompting a DUI investigation.
A breath test indicated a blood alcohol content (BAC) of 0.116%, above the legal limit. Jones has been charged with the following offenses:
- Assault in the Third Degree (Misdemeanor)
- Disorderly Conduct (Misdemeanor)
- Menacing (Misdemeanor)
- Driving Under the Influence
- No License in Possession
Following his arrest, Jones was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court #7. He was released on an unsecured bond and was turned over to a sober adult after processing.
